I'm not going to answer it for you - because I don't know the answer. The truth is that no-one can answer this question for you.

You can seek wisdom & inspiration from the most successful and well respected people in the world - but you still won't find the answer you need!

The answer has to:

• Be emotional & deeply personal
• Be something that drives & inspires you to break out of your comfort zone
• Align very strongly with your most deeply held core values

The meaning of what

To my mind - asking someone what they are doing is a functional question.

It is a simple question with a simple answer.

It is concise, direct and matter of fact.

The meaning of why

This is an exploratory & investigative question.

It is a complex question with an infinity of possible answers.

It is open and inviting.

The overwhelming importance of why

There are certain things that all successful people have in common.

One such thing - is their crystal clear sense of purpose.

If you were to ask a number of hyper-successful people why they have invested such a huge amount of time & effort to win, you would quickly see a pattern emerging.

All of their answers would be different - because they are all different and each person's purpose will be personal to them.

So the common theme is not that they all have the same answer.

The common theme is that they all have an answer!

They would not gloss over, be stumped by the question or take a long time to provide a vague answer that would be different the following day.

You would witness a fire in their eyes and an electricity in their demeanour. Like a pupil in the classroom, who eagerly thrusts their hand into the air - because "they know the answer to this one!"

They know the answer - because before investing so much time & effort in their pursuit of high achievement, they invested in something else.

They invested in the complex & obscure journey of self-discovery.

They opened their hearts & minds to the most probing & personal questions.

They set about discovering what drives & motivates them at the very core of their being.

They understood what they would be willing to do at any cost.

By association - they also discovered what they would be unwilling to do, regardless of the prize.

Summary

A bike will take you down the road - but it won't take you to the moon!

In order to achieve success - you need 4 things:

• An exact destination
• A suitable vehicle
• To know how to operate the vehicle
• A deep & burning desire to reach your destination - no matter how hard or how long it takes
